Weatherproof Outdoor Eames Chair

Waterproof Eames chair – The Mal 1956 lounger

The Mal 1956 lounger is a plastic mold of the classic Eames chair, suitable for the outdoors and waterproof!

The story goes that on his 21st birtday, Niels Wildenberg didn’t invest his money in a car, but in a chair. A second-hand chair from wood and leather, a classic that was designed in 1956 by Charles and Ray Eames. 22 years later that chair is still in his living room, the best investment he ever made.

After a day at the beach, and a day of sitting uncomfortable on the sand, the eureka moment came in that same living room. Why not create that Eames chair in a plastic version, to be able to sit nice in- and outdoors?

Together with Bob Copray, Niels Wildenberg founded the furniture brand Mal. The famous chair and accompanying footstool were the inspiration for their first product, the Mal 1956. A chair made of plastic by means of an aluminum mold.

And yes, they thought about the details, in the places where there are button in the original version, they drilled holes to drain the rainwater… Or the water from your swimsuit.

The chair is available in fresh colors and can be yours for EUR 898.
