The Antelope chair & bench where designed in 1951 by Ernest Race and has recently been reissued!
These 60+ year old classics are still beautiful. The Antelope was originally designed for the Festival of Britain heralded the new ‘Elizabethan spirit’ with its sculptural playful form. It won a silver medal at the tenth Trienalle in Milan.
ERNEST RACE 1913-1964: Ernest Race was an extremely important figure in British post-war design, and played an enormous part in the development of contemporary designs of furniture and use of materials until his untimely death in his fifties. With a background starting in interior design, his intelligent use of materials and often whimsical form has left a legacy of classic British furniture designs. These are now exhibited in many museums and galleries worldwide, and are avidly collected by an increasing number of cognoscenti of modern furniture.
